Black Body Productions: When It Was Just A Concept

“The idea for Black Body Productions came out of my own journey towards healing. I did most of the work to heal alone and it felt like performing open-heart surgery on myself. I realize that a lot of us want to begin the ongoing journey towards healing, but we either lack the resources, tools, or time to tap into our innate gifts and abilities to do this work so I want to create the means for us to do so together in open, honest, and vulnerable ways.

Black Body Productions curates content, collaborative cultural, social, and artistic spaces, and experiences that center the collective healing and holistic health of black diasporic communities. We look to raise the collective frequency and awareness of our communities by crafting new language and resources about the lived realities of blackness that touch on a range of important issues that persistently impact us. We not only engage black social life, but understand that outside of the institutions that have colonized us we can (re)shape and transform it into anything we want it to be.

The goal, in short, is the curation of environments that allow us to freely inhabit the black body and experience the true capacity of blackness: limitlessness.”

Up against the constraints of systemic oppression, limitlessness is not the point. Nor is it completely feasible in contexts where we face the potential threat of violence when we authentically express. There is room, however, when we understand what a coherent nervous system feels like. (This is not a nervous system that is always calm, by the way.) There is room, however, when we have more information.

Black Body Productions is about building spaces that nurture resilience through compassion, vulnerability, and the feeling of safety fostered through authentic connection. This resource can make navigating a world that often feels uninhabitable, more habitable.
